Review of Stapleton Guitars® LEONA™ Jumbo acoustic guitar.
The Leona is a very attractive guitar with the classic jumbo shape. The top cedar top and walnut back and sides are first-class and are finished off with a beautiful Paua rosette and wood binding. I couldn’t be happier with the look of this guitar. But it is also very well made with quality appointments throughout. The action came very nicely set up. It’s easy to play right up and down the neck and stays in tune.
Right out of the box this guitar had the sound I was seeking. The bass has a big bottom end which is still very clear. It has that big woody sound that I enjoy so much in a good acoustic guitar. The mids and trebles sound clear, crisp, and nicely balanced. There are also very pleasant overtones and the harmonics sound incredible. The volume is big too, it can cut above other acoustic guitars. It’s great to strum and sing with but is equally adept at launching into lead guitar playing. I mostly play fingerstyle but it seems to also work really well on the odd occasion I play with a pick. This is makes it really versatile.
I also own a Martin jumbo acoustic which has been with me for 23 years. This guitar sounds every bit as good and is still improving. This Leona also has a higher build quality and I was able to request larger string spacing than the Martin has. As a result it is easier for me to play. The fact that Roman has achieved this quality with an asking price well under the Martin equivalent is really remarkable.
Needless to say I’m totally thrilled with this guitar. It looks great, feels fantastic to play, and sounds amazing. It gets played every day and I feel very privileged to have it.
